Dateline: 8.27.15 – When gals get together to “talk” it’s called a “Coffee Klatch”, or a “Gabfest”, or “Ladies Tea.” But when car guys get together to talk cars, it’s called, “Bench Racing.”

They start by saying and asking, “The 2015 Corvette Z06 is a ton or car for the money, but is it the right ton?” Mike Spinelli from After/Drive hosted a 20-minute bench racing session with Travis Okulski of Jalopnik and Jason Harper of Automobile magazine and Time, Inc. All three lads spent time exploring the limits of the C7 Z06 and hoping that the car’s data recorded has a one minute statute of limitations. The National Corvette Museum Makes Lemonade – Skydome Re-Opens September 3, 2015

Bowling Green, Kentucky- 568 days after the ground opened and swallowed eight Corvettes.

1-LifeHandsLemonsDateline: 8-25-15 – The National Corvette Museum made a major announcement today. On September 3, 2015 the museum will have their Grand Re-Opening of the Skydome at 8:45am CT. If you can’t be there, worry not because the event will be shown via the museum’s webcams and will be on YouTube! But here’s the cool part, not only will the 1992 “One Millionth” Corvette be unveiled, but all eight car will be positioned exactly where they were when the ground opened up on February 12, 2014. The One Millionth Corvette, the 2009 ZR1 Blue Devil and black 1962 Corvette will be fully restored and the remaining five cars will be displayed, as they were when recovered. Continue reading “

If you’re travelling through southern Kentucky and are looking for a unique experience, check out the Chevrolet Corvette Assembly Plant Tour in Bowling Green, Kentucky. While it’s not the best tour experience in itself, the wonder of seeing a vehicle as iconic and luxurious as the Chevy Corvette being made is worth the hour.

Address: 600 Corvette Drive, Bowling Green, Kentucky 42101

Directions: Take exit 28 off of I-65. At the first traffic light, turn right and follow the signs back behind the assembly plant (turning left at the traffic light takes you to the Corvette Museum). John Greenwood’s 235-MPH Sebring ’75 Corvette Racer – NO SALE – VIDEO

Timeline: 8-15-15- Car auctions have never been more fun ever since they went LIVE online. Below is the video of the auction! Bidding stalled out at $300,000 and was a NO SALE!

It was anticipated that the car would fetch between $550,000 and $700,000, so stalling out at a measly $300,000 is incredible! According to the Mecum description of the car, $250,000 was put into the car’s restoration.

What’s mind-boggling is that earlier in the evening a 1969 L88 Roadster sold for $750,000 – CLICK HERE for details. So, if you’re itching to own a major piece of Corvette racing history, the Greenwood Sebring ’75 Corvette will no doubt be back on the block.

Why did St. Vincent Island Scoop America’s Sports Car From the USPS?

Dateline: 8.15.15 – It is ironic that a tiny, 150-square-mile island off the coast of South America would issue Corvette postage stamps 12 years before the United States Postal Service would do so. The block of 12 stamps showed 11 side-views of Corvettes and the 40th Anniversary logo as a celebration of the Corvette’s 40th birthday.

During the 2003 season, C5R-006 in the hands of Andy Pilgrim and Kelley Collins won the GTS class in the ALMS race at Road Atlanta on June 29.

Pratt & Miller completed chassis 006 (and sister car 005) in November 2001. It debuted at Sears Point on May 19, 2002 where Pilgrim and Collins finished second in class and won at Mosport later in the year. (Chassis 005 & 006 missed Le Mans because the team needed extra time to prep, ship overseas and test, drawing older Chassis 003 and 004 back into service). Continue reading “

Hackers this week demonstrated that a device used to track your driving habits can also be used to remotely take over your car.

Ian Foster and Andrew Prudhomme, from the University of California, San Diego, presented their findings at a security conference in D.C., detailing how they were able to exploit a device used to track driving data to digitally break into a Corvette, turning on its windshield wipers and putting on as well as disabling the brakes.

Their point of entry: An aftermarket telematics control unit, like the ones that major insurers such as Progressive, Allstate and State Farm provide customers to help them save on premiums. The palm-sized dongles plug into a car’s standard onboard diagnostic (OBD-II) port to monitor speed, distance and braking. That data, used to determine how safe a driver you are, is sent wirelessly to the companies’ servers. Continue reading “
