2026 Stars & Steel Corvette: 250-Car Special Edition Honors America’s 250th

The 2026 Stars & Steel Special Edition Corvette is drop dead beautiful Get in line, only 250 will be built.Mobile kicker: Chevrolet goes all-in on patriotism with one of the rarest modern Corvette Special Editions ever announced.

Chevrolet has been treating the Corvette community to Special Editions ever since the 1978 25th Anniversary paint option. The dealer availability of the Indy 500 Pace Car Replica was a mess for Chevrolet. Some of those editions were spectacular, while others were more understated. Either way, Special Editions have become part of Corvette tradition.

Production numbers, however, have been all over the map. In 1986, Chevrolet declared every Corvette a “Pace Car Special,” resulting in 27,794 cars. Those numbers are so high that the designation became meaningless from a collectibility standpoint. Among the 23 official Special Edition Corvettes offered over the years, the rarest remains the 2009 GT1 Championship Convertible. Only 17 were built.

The upcoming Stars & Steel Special Edition will be limited to 250 numbered cars, placing it near the top of the collectibility scale. Even better, the option will be available across the Corvette lineup. What we don’t yet know is how those 250 cars will be divided among the six Corvette models.

One thing is certain: this is a very handsome Special Edition. More details are expected soon.

GM President: “A Fully Electric Corvette Isn’t Easy Right Now”

Will the 2029 C9 Corvette be all-electric? GM President and Corvette fan, Mark Reuse says, "Not easy, right now".Mobile kicker: Mark Reuss says performance—not trends—will decide when an all-EV Corvette finally arrives.

This comes straight from GM President Mark Reuss, a Corvette fan if there ever was one. Reuss believes the new ZR1X, with its E-Ray’s front electric motor, represents the best path forward for world-class, ultra-high performance.

“To make [an EV] Corvette do what a Corvette’s supposed to do,” Reuss said, “this is not something that’s easy right now.”

He also added, “Never say never.”

I’ve been following all things Corvette for 60 years. I believe the C9, which is already under development, stands the best chance of offering a fully electric variant. Even possibly alongside Chevrolet’s upcoming next-generation small-block engines. One thing Chevrolet has always done well is keep Corvette fans guessing.

Grand Sport Returns: New LS6 Could Reshape the C8 Lineup

It looks like 2027 will be the years of the return of the Grand Sport Corvette, plus, a NEW LS6 engine.Mobile kicker: A lighter, better-balanced Corvette may be exactly what the C8 family needs next.

Ever since the introduction of the C6 Z06, with its broad shoulders, wide-body styling, and upgraded suspension and brakes, Z06 models have represented some of the best values in Corvette history. Let’s face it—most Z06 owners never come close to exploring the outer limits of their cars.

In the old days of the Corvette, base-engine models were fairly tame. That is no longer the case. Today’s 495-net-horsepower LT2 is anything but mild, yet it remains tractable and easy to live with.

When the 2010 Grand Sport arrived with its 430-horsepower LS3 engine, Z06 suspension, brakes, and tires, it transformed the base Corvette into a far more capable car. At a premium of just $5,840, the Grand Sport was an outright bargain.

This is a developing story, so we’ll see just how juicy the C8 Grand Sport turns out to be.

Rare LT-5 Crate Engine Heads to Mecum Auction

A rare C4 1009-1995 ZR-1 LT-5 Crate Engine Heads to Mecum Auction in January 2026.Mobile kicker: The legendary ZR-1 powerplant returns—this time without the car wrapped around it.

The 1990–1995 C4 ZR-1 remains the only Corvette powered by an engine not fully designed and built by Chevrolet. In the mid-1980s, Dave McLellan and his team defined the performance goals and turned to Lotus Engineering for detailed design, while Mercury Marine handled assembly in Oklahoma.

The 350-cubic-inch LT-5 is a jewel of an engine and remains one of the most distinctive Corvette powerplants ever built. Over the years, it has proven to be both reliable and immensely capable. Turbocharged versions have exceeded 1,000 horsepower.

This LT-5 crate engine represents the peak of late-1980s performance engineering and remains a mechanical masterpiece. It will be fascinating to see what it brings at the Mecum Kissimmee auction on January 17, 2026.
