1969 Corvette History: 250,000th Corvette Rolls Off the Line
November 7, 1969: The 250,000th Corvette rolls off the production line, a Riverside Gold convertible, purchased by George Dyer of California
“First and last” Corvettes have become quite the thing in the Corvette community over the last few years. Arguably, the first of these kinds of Corvettes to get any serious ink. “The Last C4” Corvette was purchased by Mike Yager. In fact, Mike made special arrangements to buy the last C4 1996 Corvette to roll off the Bowling Green assembly line. Mike ordered the car just the way he wanted.
The 500,000th, 750,000th, one-millionth, and 1.500,000th Corvettes all got the special treatment. But back in November 1969, the 250,000th was just another 1969 Corvette to roll off the St. Louis assembly line.
Here’s what’s known about the 1969 250,000th Corvette.
The car was purchased by George A. Dyer, 29 years old, of Montebello, California. George was a technician for a business machine company. He traded in his Plymouth Barracuda for a Riverside Gold, 350 small-block Corvette Convertible. (Good trade, George!)
As web-cars.com reported on February 12, 2014 (the same day as the National Corvette Museum’s sinkhole experience), the car is still privately owned. Additionally, it was the only milestone Corvette that was not white with a red interior, as a salute to the first 300 Corvettes. If you are wondering about the date (November 7, 1969), due to a labor strike earlier in the year, the 1969 Corvette production season was extended four months longer than regular Chevrolet cars. I’m certain that one day, this car will surface! – Scott
