BRAVISSIMO! C7 Z06 – NEW Z06 Tribute Art Print

1963 C2 Z06, 2001 C5 Z06, 2006 C6 Z06 & 2015 C7 Z06

Z06-Tribute-63-01-06-15

2015-Z06-SideAs a salute the success and rave reviews of the new C7 Z06, my new prints show the original, 1963 Z06, the C5 2001 Z06, the C6 2006 Z06, and the C7 2015 Z06, available in three unique graphic treatments – Brushed Metal, Diazo Blueprint Paper, and Kraft Paper!

The Z06 has worked out to be one of the most interesting stories in Corvette lore. What started out as an obscure “for racers only” RPO option that hardly anyone knew about, has become GM’s flagship performance car. This is nothing less than astonishing. Heck, even General Motors’ CEO Mary Barra just got herself a black-on-black Z06 convertible. I was joking with Doug MacDonald (Dave MacDonald’s brother), “You think the workers might have been a little nervous bolting together The Queen Mary’s Z06? NO PRESSURE, guys! HA!” Kidding aside, it’s good to see that she has good taste!

2015-Z06-FrontUp to the end of April 2015 Chevrolet reported 8,206 Z06s sold. That number already beats out the C6 Z06’s best sales year from 2007 when Chevrolet sold 7,760 Z06s. With a total-to-date (as of the end of April 2015) of 31,377 Corvettes built, 2,618 were Z06 models, that’s 26.18% of the 2015 production so far. The plant has a full two more months of figures to announce, as production of the 2015 Corvettes ends on June 22, 2015. (Check out the 2015 Z06 TV Commercial, click the “Continue reading” link below)

1961 Chevrolet Corvette Special – Dave MacDonald and Jim Simpson

The First Independent Purpose-Built Corvette Race Car

1961-chevrolet-corvette-sketch-side-viewThe Corvette Racing Team has proven that the Corvette is more than a match for any sports car on the planet. But in the early days, racing a production Corvette would only get you so far. To get to the next level, “purpose-built” race cars were the order of the day. Tube frames (aka “bird cages”) with a thin fiberglass or aluminum body were super lightweight and the low power-to-weight ratio made for a race car that was a handful.

Dave MacDonald was one of the young lions of Southern California sports car racing. He was a natural and quickly earned the nickname, “Master of the Oversteer.” Dave and his racing partner Jim Simpson started racing in 1960 and in their first year won 3 out of 15 races and never finished lower than 4th. In his second year Dave racked up 15 wins and three 2nd place finishes in 24 races and was on his way to being a dominant force. But like all racers, Dave and Jim wanted to move up into something faster. It was Carroll Shelby who suggested the guys get a Max Balchowsky chassis and build a purpose-built car. A look back at Chevrolet’s experimental, prototype, concept, and show car Corvettes

At Riverside Raceway in 1960, Zora Arkus-Duntov unveiled one of the most unusual cars of his career. CERV I’s official reason for being was, “A research tool for Chevrolet’s continuous investigations into automotive ride and handling phenomena under more realistic conditions (wink, wink).” But everyone knew better.

The 1978 Chevrolet Corvette Brought the Return of the Fastback

by Scott Teeters as republished from Vette Magazine’s online SuperChevy.com

The late ’70s were indeed “strange dayz” for the Corvette. The Founding Fathers had all been put out to pasture. Harley Earl was long gone, Ed Cole made his exit in September 1974, Duntov was gone from GM in January 1975, and Bill Mitchell took “exit, stage left” in July 1977. Without angels in the boardroom, what would become of the Corvette? Continue reading “The 1978 Chevrolet Corvette Brought the Return of the Fastback”

Car Club USA: Corvette Homecoming – Video

Here’s What Corvettes Mean To People

CorvetteHomecoming-600

The other day Joe Pruitt, the Event Coordinator/Owner of the National Corvette Homecoming event contacted me to tell me about their new event video by Efran Films that covered the National Corvette Homecoming 2014 event. This is a very touching video that captures what Corvettes mean to people. As we know, they’re not just “car” they’re something else. Actually, the people in the video say it perfectly. This video has heart! Enjoy!Scott

General Motors makes hundreds of kinds of cars and trucks. Some sell hundreds of thousands of units a year, which makes Chevrolet’s Corvette a complete enigma. Given the small number of Corvettes sold every year, it is a modern American manufacturing miracle that the car survived for 61 years.

The Corvette was “officially” born on January 17, 1953 at the GM Motorama Show at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York. To understand the impact of Harley Earl’s two-seater sports car concept car, you have to look at typical cars of 1953. The car was low and sleek, and wasn’t over festooned with styling gimmicks. Based on the response from attendees, Chevrolet rushed the car into production, and the rest is history. Continue reading “Corvette Prototypes and Concepts – Trend Setting: Part 2”

Gary Ricketts’ Flaming Silver Bullet Sting Ray Corvette

Mannington, New Jersey, Du Pont Safety Consultant, Gary Ricketts’ Pro Street ‘65 Sting Ray Coupe

South Jersey lifetime resident, Gary Ricketts came of age at the tail end of the muscle car era, with the party peaking before he got his driver’s license in 1971. Like most teenage car guys his age, he got to watch his favorite muscle cars duke it out at tracks such as Atco Raceway, Englishtown, Maple Grove, and Cecil County Drag-O-Way. When it comes to cars, what a young man is exposed to usually sets their taste in performance cars for a lifetime. Continue reading “Gary Ricketts’ Flaming Silver Bullet Sting Ray Corvette”

2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is Chevy’s New World Order Supercar

2015-chevrolet-corvette-z06-illustrated

by Scott Teeters as republished from Vette Magazine

The Z06 lineage is amazing: ’63 RPO Z06 “Racer Kit,” ’01-’04 Hardtop “Tough Guy,” ’06-’13 “Badass Quasi-racer,” and now the ’15 “Supercar for Everyone.” The C5 Z06 took advantage of the hardtop’s more rigid structure. The C6 Z06 (coupe-only) took the hydroformed frame structure to a new level and was crafted in all aluminum. The base C7 coupe and roadster now have an aluminum structure that is more rigid than the C6 Z06. It’s so good that the design can easily handle an additional 190 horsepower in coupe and convertible configurations. Pepperoni With Your Pizza Corvette???

by Scott Teeters

Ahh, the things people do to Corvettes. Sigh… I suppose “bad publicity” better than “no publicity” and “beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” But is this making you hungry? “You want pepperoni with your pizza Vette?”

Ventura County restaurant chain owner, Dan Collier has made quite a splash last week with his “PizzaMan Dan” Corvette (‘70, ‘71, or ‘72 model) at the Las Vegas Pizza Expo. Yes, there are expos for everything, even the pizza biz. The Pizza Expo showed off the usual offerings of the latest, greatest trends in pizza restaurant offerings, but NO ONE had a PIZZA CORVETTE, except for PizzaMan Dan!
