Dateline October 2015: With 650 horsepower and 650lb-ft of torque on tap, Chevrolet’s engineers did their damndest to build the ultimate track-focused weapon in the new Corvette Z06. However, in reality, the LT4 motor that powers the new Corvette isn’t exactly getting praise for its reliability, and the price is astronomical when considering the nameplate. Continue reading

Illustrated Corvette Series No. 225

Sometimes we have to remind ourselves that all Corvettes were roadsters for the first 10 years of production. After all, when Harley Earl first conceived his Chevrolet sports car, most sports cars were open roadsters. Oh, there were coupes, but there was nothing like motoring on the open road with the top down and the wind in your hair. Ever since 1963 there’s always been a “coupe” Corvette. Roadsters went away from 1976 to 1985 but have been back ever since 1986. Continue reading

by Jack Barruth as republished from Road and Track

Has the track focus taken a back seat to outright speed?

Dateline October 2015:  This must be what it was like to be Saul “Slash” Hudson back in the early Nineties, I thought to myself. Over the four days of Performance Car of the Year testing I’d received dozens of social-media and text messages from various friends and/or acquaintances trying to find out what was happening. Had we crashed any cars? (Sorta.) Had anybody gotten arrested, maybe after a long police chase? (No.) Continue reading

Dateline October 2015: We’ve seen plenty of 1,000+ hp Corvettes, even a few 2,000+ hp Corvettes, but we haven’t seen too many – if at all – 4,000 horsepower Corvettes, until now. Dateline October 2015: Let’s got one thing straight before we dive into this devilish dragster: This Pro Mod C7 is a Corvette Stingray in name only. However, it looks a bit like a Corvette C7 so we’ll stick with the name all the same. Now, on to the fun stuff.
Recently built by Pappas/Marinis Motorsports, this cartoonishly over-the-top Corvette gets its power from a massive BES-sourced 5.2-inch bore space 820 ci (13.4-liter) engine with a pair of Braswell/Book carbs. Continue reading
