Corvette Chief Engineer Explains Motor Trend Z06 DNF: VIDEO

by John Coyle as republished from MotorAuthority.com

Why  the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 did not finish during Motor Trend’s annual Best Driver’s Car competition.

Dateline October 2015: Late last month, news broke that the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 did not finish during Motor Trend’s annual Best Driver’s Car competition.

The supercharger simply refused to engage—which Chevrolet initially blamed on bad fuel—and to add insult to injury, the car was delivered to Laguna Seca with worn brake pads. Predictably, the uber fans at CorvetteForum went ballistic, demanding answers from Chevrolet about how exactly a track-tuned beast dubbed the Big Nasty could perform so poorly in such an important test. The Most Powerful and Advanced Corvette Pace Cars Ever!

Dateline: 10.14.15: 2012 ZR1 Corvette – Before the arrival of the ZR1 in 2009, there’d been rumors about the “possibility” of a supercharged Corvette called the “Blue Devil,” even though no one was complaining about the Z06 or the base 430-horsepower Corvette being weak in the knees. The unleashed, supercharged 638-horsepower ZR1 had a top speed of 205-mph and was like a slightly more user-friendly Z06 on steroids. It was just a surprise that it took until 2012 for the ZR1 to pace the Indy 500! Back in 1981 race winner Bobbie Unser had a pole winning speed of 200.546-mph! Continue reading

Another “First” Corvette brings in the BIG BUCKS

Barrett-Jackson knows how to put on a show. The roster for the 3 day auction fest in Vegas was packed with beauties… and the girls were nice too. But seriously folks, the car and truck eye candy was a treat and #001 2016 Special Edition C7.R Z06 Corvette was saved for later on the last day. With “first and last” cars becoming highly collectible in the Corvette community and with so many models and special editions having been produced, we’ll no doubt see many more of these. Callaway’s New Corvette C7 GT3-R Is A Track Beast – Videos

Callaway’s carbon-fiber suit is the ultimate body-kit for the new Corvette, especially as it transforms the already cool car into a full-on racing machine.

Come to think of it, this is the only way you can make the Corvette C7 cooler than it already is. Beefy aprons, widen fender flares and an ultra-aggressive stance makes it a feast for the eyes; but what else can did you expect from Callaway? Continue reading

The Illustrated Corvette Designer Series No. 208

On January 13, 2013, Chevrolet stunned the automotive world when the all-new C7 Corvette literally leapt out on the stage at the North American International Auto Show, in Detroit, Michigan. This was almost 60 years to the day that Harley Earl’s dream car Corvette debuted at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City. The only way it could have been better would have been to have both the coupe and convertible burst on to the stage at the same time. Instead, Chevy unveiled the gorgeous Stingray convertible at the 2013 Geneva Show, in March 2013. Continue reading

The new C7 Z06 takes on 9 contenders and comes out on top! – Video

greatest-drag-race

Timeline: 10.5.15 – These guys at Motor Trend are having too much fun! They took an assortment of 10 performance cars. Here’s what MT had to say…

We have the Mercedes AMG GT S, Bentley Continental GT3-R, Chevrolet Corvette Z06, Cadillac ATS-V, Volkswagen Golf R, Porsche Cayman GT4, Mazda MX-5 Miata, Mercedes-AMG C63 S, Lexus RC F, Cadillac CTS-V — all gathered together on an abandoned airstrip at El Toro Marine Base to find out which car is the fastest. Obviously these 10 competitors display a wide range of power and performance, so why do we continue lining them up for one, over-the-top drag race?… Because We Can!

World’s Greatest Drag Race 5 concludes our special 2015 Best Driver’s Car Week here on the Motor Trend Channel. We hope you’ve enjoyed all of this week’s videos Continue reading

Randy Pobst Flogs the Pants Off a 2015 Z06 Corvette – Video

Let’s hope there’s a retest with a Z06 that’s running right! – Video

2015-C7-Z06-KING

Dateline: 10.1.15 – Watch and listen to this car and it’s hard to believe this is a factory-built street car. Factory Corvettes haven’t “sounded” this good since the days of the ’65-’69 big-blocks with side pipes. While in the beginning the car “sounds” awesome, something wasn’t right with this particular Z06. You hear are few sour exhaust notes then hear Pobst say, “This is REALLY not running right AT ALL!” The car grips and brakes great, but the LT4 was not delivering. Let’s try this again, Chevrolet.

Bum test car aside, with absolutely nothing to apologize for or make “yea, but…” arguments over while splitting hairs, you have to wonder, “Where is all this going???” I don’t think this will be the Corvette’s high-water-mark as far as power is concerned. Continue reading

Couple Test Drive Sporty 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible

2015-chevrolet-corvette-convertible-8-speed-automatic

By BARBARA & BILL SCHAFFER as republished from Auto Digest

There is probably no car that epitomizes the sports car in the U.S. more than the Chevrolet Corvette.

We certainly got that feeling the week we spent driving the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible recently. We saw heads turning, thumbs up, iPhones in camera mode and passengers in other cars twisting to get a better look.

Of course it’s hard not to gawk at the dramatic lines of this four-foot tall silver convertible with red leather interior wearing massive tires that look like they belong on a race car. Certainly Porsche’s, Ferraris and a couple of handfuls of other sports cars have equally dramatic appearances, but the Corvette is the granddaddy and it has a certain really-fast-car-made-in-America mystique. How Does GM Improve the C7 Corvette?

C7 Corvette

With the constant push to stay ahead of the competition, how will GM improve the Corvette?

by Patrick Rall as republished from TorqueNews.com

Dateline 9.17.15. I was talking with a few guys (one of whom was driving a C7 Stingray Convertible) at a car show the other day about the modern Chevrolet Corvette, and they both voiced their concerns over the fact that “nothing changed for 2016”.  Now, I felt the need to point out that sales numbers were steadily strong month after month and really, there is no solid competition for the Corvette in Stingray or Z06 form, so there is no real need for GM to make changes right now. They both pointed out that with the new Camaro SS coming out with similar drive train components to the Stingray, and to simply stay ahead of the in-house competition, the company needs to bring something new to the Corvette lineup. Three Dudes and a 2015 Z06 – Supercar, or Not? – And the Verdict Is??? – VIDEO

Car Guys bench race the 2015 Z06 Corvette

Fast-C7-Z06-Side

Dateline: 8.27.15 – When gals get together to “talk” it’s called a “Coffee Klatch”, or a “Gabfest”, or “Ladies Tea.” But when car guys get together to talk cars, it’s called, “Bench Racing.”

They start by saying and asking, “The 2015 Corvette Z06 is a ton or car for the money, but is it the right ton?” Mike Spinelli from After/Drive hosted a 20-minute bench racing session with Travis Okulski of Jalopnik and Jason Harper of Automobile magazine and Time, Inc. All three lads spent time exploring the limits of the C7 Z06 and hoping that the car’s data recorded has a one minute statute of limitations. (pssst… they ALL seriously exceeded the speed limits – big surprise) Click the Read more link to see the video. Continue reading
